About Me
Welcome to my page!
My name is Melanie Ransom and I'm 29 years old. I'm married to a wonderful husband Ryan for 4 years now and we also have 2 little kitties, Raven and Moo Moo.We met when we were both stationed in Seoul, Korea. We both were nurses in the army and we've been to Korea, Washington DC, Maryland and now we are stationed at Ft Gordon, Georgia. I have since gotten out of the military and have been enjoying life as a civilian :-)
I have made this blog to share my journey to a healthier lifestyle. When I finished nursing school, I was always complaining of migraines. I thought the stress of nursing school brought them on. I figured, when I finish school they'll go away. Went for a checkup with my doctor and basically told me I had Borderline Hypertension! I thought to myself, "How could that be? I'm not overweight and I'm young!" Well, both of my parents have Hypertension and also high cholesterol. I come from bad genetics. I thought that since I never had a problem with my weight, I could eat whatever I want and nothing can happen to me. Well I was wrong.
Throughout my early 20s, I did stay pretty active. I've finished 4 marathons and a couple of half marathons and went to the gym pretty routinely.
I've done the P90x workouts and also the Insanity workouts as well. Never finished them but I tried them. During my time in the military, I was still having trouble with my blood pressure! I was getting readings such as 140s/90s or 140s/100s. WAY TOO HIGH! My doctor at the time did start me in Lisinopril, the smallest dose she can start me on and it just made me dizzy all the time. It actually did drop my blood pressure quite nice but a little too much. So she took me off of it and said that we need to do a lifestyle change. That really opened up my eyes about what I was doing to my body.
